March 06 2016 - A 35-year-old man allegedly killed 14 members of his family, including seven children, before committing suicide in the Kasarwadavli area of Maharashtra’s Thane. In the pee-pee hours (at about 2 a.m.) on Sunday, a 35-year-old chartered accountant from Thane allegedly attempted to murder 14 members of his own family with a knife and then hung himself to death. The deceased include 7 children, his wife, his 3 sisters, and his parents and he himself.

Ashutosh Dumbare, Joint Commissioner of Thane Police said that the incident is believed to have taken place between 2-2.30 am. "The evidence suggests that the accused latched all the doors of the house and murdered own family members with knife. He could kill them all because they were asleep. The knife was found near his body. The accused then hung himself to death. He was in a room with his wife and two daughters, his parents and sisters were in separate rooms," Dumbare said. According to Dumbare the police was made aware of the incident when the survivor sister Subia Bharmar had cried for help.

After about a week, when Subia has improved her health condition after the injury on her neck; she has informed police that her brother had sexually abused one of the sisters. According to Subia, he had borrowed Rs.10 lakh from his maternal grandfather, Rs.19.5 lakh from own mother’s account, Rs.15 lakh from aunt Rukshana, Rs.15 lakh from the next aunt Jhebid, Rs.8 lakh (approx) from gold-loan, and some other loan; he had burden of about Rs.65-70 lakh. In order to get rid of the loan and the humiliation, he had killed all the family members including himself.
